What is RNAi and How Do RNAi-based Medicines Work?
Medicines based on RNA interference (RNAi) work by “silencing” or disabling the production (“expression”) of the genes that cause specific diseases. The discovery of RNAi was awarded the 2006 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine. Alnylam has been working since 2002 to pioneer RNAi-based medicines called RNAi therapeutics and bring them to patients as an innovative new class of medicines.
