As we look to 2021 and beyond, the COVID-19 pandemic remains an evolving international crisis. Never before has a vaccine been developed so rapidly, and tested at the same time as gathering fundamental virology, immunology and public health knowledge on a virus. The speed at which COVID-19 vaccines are being developed is unprecedented. In the long-term, there is a hope and expectation of a pandemic slow down; but for life to become more open with a return to pre-COVID-19 ‘normal’.
