The Top COVID-19 Hot Spots in the U.S.
The U.S. tallied a daily average of about 60,220 new COVID-19 cases over the seven days that ended May 9, USAFacts reports, and a daily average of 405 deaths in that same time frame. In contrast, the averages for one week earlier were 56,252 cases and 392 deaths per day.
For comparison, the largest loss of life during the pandemic was seen in January 2021, with around 3,500 deaths in the U.S. per day. Conversely, deaths dropped to around an average of 200 per day during July 2021.
